How we do it

Advocacy not Advice

We all have the right for our wishes to be heard and respected.  Without the support that independent advocacy offers, the wishes of those alone or vulnerable can often be ignored.

Advocacy means acting on behalf of, or with people to enable them communicate their needs, raise awareness of their rights and implement their choices.

We offer advocacy not advice.

What does this mean?

You know what you want and you have a right to be heard.

Advice given by others may not be what you want for yourself.

An advocate ensures that your wishes are communicated

  • at home

  • in hospital

  • in a care home

  • in the community

Information

Information is gathered on local advice centres, counselling services, health and social services.  Clients can be referred to these services if they so wish.

Information about residential and nursing homes is gathered through visits, personal contact and documentation from Manchester City Councils Registration and Inspection Unit.

Information we gather acts as a resource for our one-to-one advocacy work.
